Robben blames Juventus comeback on Bayern Munich’s lack of focus

Arjen Robben believes Bayern Munich‘s lapse in concentration fueled Juventus’ thrilling comeback Tuesday.

With Bayern grabbing its second goal just minutes after halftime, the German champions looked well on their way to a vital first-leg triumph over last season’s runners-up in the Champions League.

However, goals from Paulo Dybala and Stefano Sturaro erased Bayern’s lead as the two sides will now head into the second leg with a 2-2 scoreline.

“We all are a bit disappointed,” Robben said. “When you are two goals up you have to finish off the match.

“We should have played calmer. Even after a second goal you must stay focused.”

Taking Juve’s success in the competition and its Serie A dominance into account, Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the Bianconeri.

“Overall it was a great display – Juve were in the last Champions League final, they have won four straight Serie A titles, they have just won (13) games in a row,” he said.

“Last year they did better than us too, so we weren’t up against some pub team. It’s a shame and this was the result, but I’m still very satisfied.”

Despite the plethora of trophies and accomplishments throughout his illustrious managerial career, however, Guardiola added that the evening was monumental for him, describing it as one of the “happiest” he’s experienced since beginning his coaching career with Barcelona in 2008.

“I expect Juve to be even more aggressive in Munich,” he said. “But I’m very happy – this is maybe the happiest evening of my career.

“The return will be different. They will come to win or to get a 3-3. We will try to score. I don’t expect us to protect this result.
