FIFA unveils official 2018 World Cup poster

Soviet goalkeeping great Lev Yashin is the centrepiece for the official poster of the 2018 World Cup, which was presented Tuesday in Moscow, Russia ahead of next summer’s tournament.

Yashin appeared in four World Cups with the Soviet Union between 1958 and 1970. The poster depicts him leaping through the air in order to save an oversized football that features the landmass of Russia.

“We are very proud of this beautiful landmark asset that portrays such an important icon and celebrates the coming tournament on Russian soil,” FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura said, according to Reuters.

The poster has garnered plenty of praise for its vintage design and for its inclusion of “The Black Spider.”
