Report: Barcelona hijacks Roma’s deal for Malcom

Barcelona is set to sign Bordeaux winger Malcom after hijacking his scheduled move to Roma, according to Sky Sport’s Fabrizio Romano.

Malcom had arranged a flight to Italy following successful negotiations between Bordeaux and Roma, but Barcelona’s more substantial offer at the 11th hour reportedly swayed the French side.

Roma and Bordeaux announced Monday that the move was imminent, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting an initial €32-million deal had been reached. Supporters rushed to Fiumicino airport to greet Malcom in the evening, only for his flight to be cancelled.

Malcom would have become Roma’s 11th signing of a transformative summer window.

He will instead become the third player to join Barcelona following the arrivals of Clement Lenglet and Arthur.

Malcom caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs thanks to a breakout season with Bordeaux. He registered 12 goals and seven assists in 35 appearances for Les Girondins, while terrifying defenders with his directness and electrifying pace.

Everton reportedly made a push to sign the Brazilian before Roma reached an agreement. Tottenham, Arsenal, and Inter were also linked with the player.
