Barcelona’s Messi, Suarez overcome injuries ahead of derby

Barcelona will be close to full strength for this weekend’s derby against Espanyol with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez fit to play.

Messi picked up a groin injury while on international duty with Argentina and was ruled out of the country’s friendly against Morocco as a precaution.

Meanwhile, Suarez’s availability was a bigger concern, as the Uruguayan struggled to overcome a badly sprained ankle suffered just before the international break.

However, both players will be available for selection when the Blaugrana take on rivals Espanyol on Saturday.

Ousmane Dembele, Rafinha, and Jasper Cillessen were ruled out of the contest due to injury.

With just 10 matches remaining this season, Barcelona sit atop the Liga table while holding a 10-point edge over second-place Atletico Madrid.
