Sporting events in Italy suspended until April due to coronavirus outbreak

All sporting events in Italy, including Serie A, will be suspended until April 3 at the earliest due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Italian National Olympic Committee announced on Monday.

The country’s Olympic committee will request a government decree to impose the decision to postpone sports at all levels in the country, according to the Associated Press.

The suspension is not expected to impact Italian clubs or national teams participating in continental or international competitions, which would include the Champions League.

Italy has been the European nation worst affected by the coronavirus outbreak, with over 300 deaths.

More to come.
