Europa League draw: Manchester United could face Wolves in semis

Friday’s Europa League draw raised the prospect of an all-Premier League semifinal between Manchester United and Wolverhampton, who are on the same side of the competition’s newly formed bracket.

Though the Europa League is still stuck in the round of 16 due to the coronavirus pandemic, each remaining team learned its path to the final on Friday.

Once all last-16 fixtures are completed, the tournament will switch to a single-elimination format, with games from the quarterfinal stage onward taking place in Germany from Aug. 10-21.

The final will be played in Cologne on Aug. 21.

Having won 5-0 away to Austrian outfit LASK in the first leg of their last-16 tie, United are expected to advance without issue. However, Wolves are tied 1-1 with Olympiacos after the first 90 minutes of play.

Second-leg fixtures will be played at home teams’ stadiums on Aug. 5 and 6.
