Report: Suarez furious after Barcelona block Atletico Madrid transfer

Luis Suarez may enlist the services of his lawyers after Barcelona backtracked on a verbal agreement allowing him to move to Atletico Madrid, according to ESPN’s Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens.

Suarez and Barcelona reportedly agreed Monday the striker could leave for free if he surrendered a percentage of the money owed to him in the final year of his contract. The Catalonian club also insisted he couldn’t join Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, or Paris Saint-Germain.

The Uruguayan and Atletico Madrid were therefore clear to negotiate and agreed to terms on a free transfer. The two parties hoped to confirm the switch soon after Alvaro Morata‘s anticipated move to Juventus was completed, as reported by Marsden and Llorens.

However, Barcelona reneged on the agreement with the 33-year-old after hearing Suarez was set to join a Spanish rival. The club is reluctant to strengthen Atletico while paying a part of Suarez’s salary until next June.
