Toure dropped from charity game after reportedly sharing sexual content

Yaya Toure was dropped from UNICEF’s annual charity football match on Saturday after he reportedly shared a pornographic video and offered to hire sex workers in a WhatsApp conversation with his teammates.

His conduct, which The Sun’s Ellie Henman first revealed, reportedly led to players complaining to organizers of Soccer Aid, the UNICEF event that pits retired stars and celebrities against one another. The former Manchester City and Barcelona midfielder was also reportedly criticized during Friday’s breakfast featuring squad members.

The game will be held at Manchester United’s Old Trafford on Sunday.

“Inappropriate content was shared in a private group text,” a spokesperson for Soccer Aid said, according to The Guardian’s Mattha Busby. “The message was quickly deleted and a full apology was made to all. Soccer Aid for UNICEF has discussed the above with the individual involved and he has decided to no longer continue to participate in this year’s event.

“While it was an error of judgment, it was felt that the behaviour didn’t align with the values of the event and its cause, and it was the right thing for him to step back from this year’s match.”
