Ter Stegen to miss over 2 months after undergoing knee surgery

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen will miss approximately two-and-a-half months after undergoing surgery on his troublesome right knee, the club confirmed Tuesday.

The German shot-stopper went under the knife to repair a tendon issue that hampered him during the season.

The timeline means the 28-year-old will miss the beginning of the upcoming La Liga campaign, which is slated to begin Sept. 12.

A key contributor at the Camp Nou, Ter Stegen started 46 matches across all competitions this past season. Despite an expected summer overhaul following Barca’s Champions League humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich, the netminder is believed to be one of the squad’s few untouchable players.

Barring a surprise move in the transfer market, the Catalan side will likely turn to Neto between the sticks while Ter Stegen is sidelined. The 31-year-old Brazilian joined the club from Valencia in 2019.
